4 Ways to Spring Clean & Update Your Website

So, you’re ready for some spring cleaning for your site? Here are 4 simple steps to get you started spring cleaning and updating your website.

your branding is on point.

Tick all the right boxes to make sure

This spring, I’ve decided to undertake a thorough decluttering mission in my home AND on my online home (aka my website).

The strategy? Each day, I bid farewell to a bunch of stuff. On day 1, one item gets the boot, on day 2, two items are shown the door, and so forth. Yet, I’m not adhering to it religiously. Some days, like last week, I don’t think I tossed anything! Don’t tell my husband😅

Anyways, decluttering has been my go-to activity. Armed with a new planner, I’ve been noting down weekly goals for my home and business. The aim is to streamline my daily grind, adjust my processes to better match my services, spruce up my portfolio, and set actionable objectives for the next few months.

Join me in spring cleaning and let’s explore some breezy ways to declutter and update your website!

4 Ways to Spring Clean & Update Your Website:

1️⃣ Give Your Brand a Once-Over

Begin with a casual review of your brand and website. Think of it as window shopping your own business. Look through every page and jot down what content you wanna update on your website, or what pictures you want to update with your new brand photos you took last month! Identify what’s working for you and what’s not – remember to be honest. The cool stuff stays, the not-so-cool stuff? It must go.

2️⃣ Keep the Navigation Simple:

You certainly wouldn’t want your website visitors to feel lost and confused while navigating your website, would you? One of the best ways to ensure a seamless user experience is to simplify your website navigation, making it as uncomplicated and relaxed as a leisurely Sunday afternoon. This means making your customer journey (or your site map) intuitive and easy-to-follow, with clearly labeled headings and sections that guide visitors directly to where they need to go on your website.

Definitely double-check and update all the links embedded on your website. You don’t want to lead your visitors to dead ends like a 404 page, but that you’re guiding them to the correct places where they can find the information they are looking for. This way, you can make sure that your website is not only user-friendly but also effective in getting your message across.

3️⃣ Freshen Up Your Content:

Just like the cool, spring air, keep your website content fresh and current. The world evolves, and so should your content. Update your homepage, your sales pages, and start combing through your blog posts to make sure your content is easy to read and that blog post links are directing visitors where they need to go and not to a dead-end 404 error page. Keep it engaging and up-to-date!

4️⃣ Boost Your SEO Game:

Time to give your website’s Search Engine Optimization (SEO) some TLC! Think of your keywords like petals on a flower – each one’s unique and plays its part in drawing the right crowd to your website. Sprinkle ’em through your content so they fit in smoothly, making your text easy to read while boosting its visibility in search engines.

Don’t just stop at the main text, go deeper. Meta descriptions, those small snippets under your web page title in search results, are a great spot for your keywords. They don’t just help search engines figure out what your page is about, but they also up the odds of folks clicking on your page.

And don’t forget about images. They say a picture’s worth a thousand words, but in the SEO world, a picture with well-optimized alt text is just as mighty! Alt text helps search engines understand your images better, which means your images could help you pop up in search results. So give Google a hand and update your website with helpful alt links so your beautiful images can be seen!

Remember, every move you make to boost your SEO is a step towards getting your website noticed and pulling in more traffic. Your SEO will surely thank you!
